We support the Eastern Health Foundation.

Established in 2011, the Eastern Health Foundation is the charitable arm of Eastern Health, aiming to transform public healthcare by aligning philanthropic interests with innovative projects. Donors, including individuals, community and corporate groups, play a crucial role in ensuring that excellent healthcare is accessible to everyone, regardless of financial or social status. Their contributions keep Eastern Health at the forefront of medical advancements, enabling leadership in research, learning, and delivering the best possible health outcomes.

While Eastern Health appreciates government support, budget constraints and competing priorities often limit funding for new medical services. Philanthropic support fills these gaps, allowing Eastern Health to provide additional medical equipment, extra programs, fund clinical research, and offer scholarships to healthcare workers. The foundation's strategic goal is to optimize resources through continuous improvement, focusing on four pillars: enhancing patient care, investing in technology and equipment, supporting staff education and training, and driving groundbreaking research.

In 2023 SWBRM decided to focus specifically on the Eastern Health - Mental Health and Wellbeing Inpatient Units located at Box Hill Hospital (Upton House) and Maroondah Hospital (IPU1 and IPU2). Each unit provides a safe and supportive environment, including dedicated spaces such as female-only areas and a male-only lounge in IPU1. The Maroondah units serve the Maroondah, Knox, Yarra Ranges, and Whitehorse-East areas, while Upton House serves Manningham, Monash-Waverley East and West, Whitehorse-Box Hill, and Whitehorse-Nunawading West. Multidisciplinary care is available 24/7 from a team including nursing staff, psychiatrists, doctors, social workers, occupational therapists, pharmacists, and peer support workers. The focus is on providing quality care with respect for dignity and privacy, fostering collaboration with consumers and their families for optimal recovery. Treatment plans are individualized, inclusive, and non-discriminatory.

In the last financial year, 1,579 consumers were admitted to IPU1 and IPU2, receiving brief therapeutic interventions and comprehensive support. The money raised from our 2023 event has so far provided: updated community art pieces and murals both indoors and out, refreshed courtyard facilities with additional exercise equipment, securing furniture and updating laundry facilities for all.
